In this article for the AmCham Journal, UNFPA Representative a.i. Masaki Watabe outlines three demographic dividends that Bangladesh stands to benefit from—the first demographic dividend, driven by a growing working-age population; the second, sustained through increased savings and investments as the population ages; and the gender dividend, which can be unlocked by reducing gender-based violence, tackling child marriage and adolescent pregnancies, and increasing female workforce participation. Adopting a lifecycle and gender-transformative approach, the UNFPA Representative a.i. emphasizes evidence-based policymaking and calls for strategic actions in human capital development, job creation, gender equality, and private sector engagement to maximize Bangladesh’s demographic potential and ensure sustainable economic growth.
