Across Asia and the Pacific violent conflict and extremism continue to pose serious challenges to sustainable development and security. Since 1992, civil conflicts have affected at least half the countries in the region. Many nations are seeing more human rights abuses and shrinking civic spaces, leading to social discontent and fuelling narratives of violent extremism.

International Day of the Midwife - Women and Newborns: The Heart of Midwifery

The International Day of the Midwife, 5 May, is a day to celebrate the life-saving work of the world’s midwives. Midwives are the primary care givers for millions of women and newborns before, during and after childbirth, and also offer women and girls essential counselling and education on family planning and reproductive health.
