Under the global project on Gender-Biased Sex Selection (GBSS), UNFPA contributes to strengthening evidence-based national policies and programmes in addressing son preference, low value of girls and gender inequalities resulting in gender-biased sex selection in countries, engaging with regional and national partners for both conceptual development of interventions as well as their implementation. Through this project, UNFPA works to strengthen the existing knowledge base on sex ratio imbalance through demographic, socio-cultural, operational and policy research at the national level, while building the multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral capacity for advocacy, development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes to address sex selection/son preference in Bangladesh.
